Alka-Seltzer

Alka-Seltzer Original tablets are used for the fast and effective relief of mild to moderate pain for things such as headaches, migraines, nerve pain, toothache, period pain, sore throats and general aches and pains. It is also used for the symptomatic relief of cold, flu, and fevers.

Active Ingredient

Aspirin 325mg/Tablet

Citric Acid 1000mg/Tablet

Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate 1916mg/Tablet

Drug Warning

Alka-Seltzer must always be dissolved in a glass of water before taking.

This product is not recommended in children under 16 years of age.

Suitability criteria

Pain Relief

Indigestion

Dose

Adults, elderly and children aged 16 years and over: Take two tablets in water. This dose can be repeated every 4 hours, as required. Maximum of 4 dosages in 24 hours.

This dose should not continue for more than three days.

Warnings and Contraindications

You should avoid using Alka-Seltzer if:

You are allergic to any other pain relieving or anti-inflammatory medicines (such as NSAIDs).

You are on a high dose of methotrexate.

You have or have had a stomach or duodenal ulcer.

You have a blood disorder such as haemophilia.

You are pregnant or breast feeding.

You have severe heart, liver or kidney problem.

You have asthma which is worsened by aspirin or other NSAIDs.

Common Side Effects

This product is from a group of medications which can reduce fertility in women, which is reversible when you stop Alka-Seltzer.

Other Ingredients

Povidone, Dimeticone, Calcium silicate, Docusate sodium benzoate (E211), Sodium saccharin, natural and artificial Lemon flavour, and natural Lime flavour.
