Oral Contraception

Take one Cilique tablet daily, around the same time every day. It comes in a strip of 21 pill marked by days of the week.

Once you take all 21 pills, stop for 7 days. This will be a 7-day 'pill-free' period, during which you may bleed.

You do not have to use other contraceptives during this 7 day pill free period, as long as you take the 21 pills appropriately and start the next cycle on time. s

Starting your next pack: Do this whether or not you are bleeding. You should ensure you are starting your next pack on the same day of the week.

If changing over from another combined oral contraceptive, Start Cilique the next day after you took the last active tablet of your previous contraceptive. The pack should be started no later than on the day after your usual contraceptives pill-free interval.

If changing over from a progestogen-only pill, injection, implant or progestogen-releasing IUS, You can switch over to Cilique on any day from a progestogen-only pill. For an implant or IUS on the day of its removal. While for an injectable, from when the next injection would be due. In all cases you should use extra protection (e.g. condoms) for the first 7 days of taking Cilique.

Do not use in the case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any of the additional ingredients.

This product should not be used by post-menopausal women

Headaches, stomach upset, temporary bleeding or spotting between your periods (for the first few months), or painful or unusual periods

Migraines, swollen hands or ankles, depression or mood changes, sleeping difficulties, stomach ache, bloating, acne, muscle spasms, UTIs, vaginal discharge, no menstrual periods, feeling weak or weight gain

Some contraceptives can cause your blood pressure to rise. So you will have to have your blood pressure checked by your GP at least yearly.

If you have a high BMI, some combined oral contraceptives may not be suitable. You should also get your weight checked every year if you are on Cilique.

You will need to ensure you are not already pregnant, and this may have to be excluded with a pregnancy test.

If you are currently breast feeding, you may be advised not to use Cilique and use alternative contraception.

While you’re on the pill – you should go for regular cervical smear tests and you should also check your breasts or nipples on a monthly basis for any changes such as lumps or dimpling of the skin.

Cilique may also affect the results of any blood tests, so you should inform your GP that you are taking this medication.

If you’re new to taking contraceptives or new to using Cilique may be better suited to taking no more than a 3-month supply, so you can see if it suits you and whether you experience any side effects.

A 6 months supply is more suitable if you’re already using Cilique or have used it in the past.

You can also go to your GP for contraceptives.

Cilique is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when taken correctly. If not taken correctly, statistics show around 9% of women will get pregnant.

If you missed one pill and it is 12 hours or less, Your contraceptive protection should not be affected if you take the late pill immediately, and keep taking your pills at the usual time. That may mean taking 2 pills in one day.

If its more than 12 hours late, or you have missed more than 1 pill, You have to take the missed pill as soon as you remember, even if it means taking 2 pills in the same day. Continue taking the pill at your usual time each day. You should also use barrier methods of contraceptive (e..g condoms) for 7 days.

If the missed pill happens when you still have more than 7 pills left in the pack, You should use extra precautions for the next 7 days. When you finish the strip, take your usual 7 day pill-free interval before starting the next strip. If you missed any pills from the 1st week of your strip, and also had intecourse in that week. you could risk becoming pregnant.

If you miss a pill when there are less than 7 pills in the pack, Use extra precautions for the next 7 days. When you finish the strip, start the next strip without the pill-free interval. If you do not have a withdrawal bleed after finishing the 2nd strip, you should perform a pregnancy test.

If you miss any of the pills in a strip and do not bleed in your first pill-free interval period, you may be pregnant. You should consult your GP or take a pregnancy test.

You can take a pill from a spare strip if you have any, and that means you can continue your other pills as normal and stay in sync.

The spare strip will come in useful in future if you lose any other pills.

If you are sick within 2 hours of taking Cilique, You should take a pill from a spare strip, and continue taking your next pills at your usual time. You will not have to use extra contraceptive methods.

If you are still sick or having diarrhoea for more than 1 day, You should follow the instructions for a missed pill.
