Tirzepatide
Mounjaro is an UK licensed injectable medication used for weight loss and weight maintenance in adults. It is used alongside diet and exercise to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
The starter dose comes with a sharps disposal box.
Needles and cleansing wipes are included.
Patients who have a BMI of over 30.
Patients with a BMI over 27, and other risk factors such as Diabetes type 2, High Cholesterol, Obstructive sleep apnoea and/or High blood pressure.
Each kwikpen contains 4 fixed doses.
The starting dose is 2.5mg - once weekly for 4 weeks.
After 4 weeks, you can increase to 5mg once weekly.
The dose can then be increased in 2.5 mg increments every 4 weeks.
The appropriate maintenance dose for Mounjaro will be discussed with you at your consultation.
- This may include headache, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, feeling hungry, confusion, irritability, fast heartbeat and sweating.
Feeling sick (nausea)
Diarrhoea
Being sick (vomiting) - this usually goes away with time.
Constipation
These side effects are not severe and are common when first starting Mounjaro and will decrease overtime as your body gets used to the medication.
Sodium phosphate dibasic heptahydrate, benzyl alcohol, glycerol, phenol, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide.
Store in a refrigerator (2 °C – 8 °C). Do not freeze. If the pen has been frozen, DO NOT USE.
Once opened, the pen can be stored unrefrigerated not above 30 ºC for up to 30 days and then the pen must be discarded.
Do not use this medicine if you notice that the pen is damaged, or the medicine is cloudy, discoloured or has particles in it.
Keep out of reach of children.
You may notice liquid left in your pen after your fourth dose, this is normal and you should not attempt to inject this.
Mounjaro is a clear, colourless to slightly yellow, solution for injection in a pre-filled KwikPen..
When starting treatment you may experience loss of fluids/dehydration, which may lead to a decrease in kidney function. It is important to avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of fluids.
