Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. It can be used for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) symptoms, including heartburn and acid reflux, long-term management and prevention of relapse in reflux oesophagitis. This medication can also be used for the prevention of gastroduodenal ulcers caused by a group of painkillers called 'non-selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs' (NSAIDs)
