Dose
The recommended dose of oral sumatriptan is a single 50 mg tablet to be taken at the onset of migraine
A further dose of 50mg may be taken after at least 2 hours if required, to be taken only if migraine recurs
Warnings and Contraindications
Sumatriptan should not be used if you have had a heart attack or have ischaemic heart disease, coronary vasospasm, peripheral vascular disease, cerebrovascular accident (stroke) or transient ischaemic attack (TIA)
This medication should not be used in moderate, severe or mild uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure)
Sumatriptan must not be used within 2 weeks of stopping treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitor medication
Sumatriptan should not be used in the management of, hemiplegic, basilar or ophthalmoplegic migraine
Sumatriptan should not used where there are risk factors for ischaemic heart disease, including in heavy smokers or users of nicotine substitution therapies. Please consult your doctor for further advice.
Common Side Effects
Dizziness, drowsiness, sensory disturbance
Some changes in blood pressure arising soon after treatment.
Flushing, tiredness, heavy sensation in the body

Other information
If your migraine does not respond to the first dose of sumatriptan, a second dose should not be taken for the same attack.
